What a Pain in the Tooth.....

I had to go to the dentist Monday to get a tooth pulled. It was my VERY last molar on the bottom. I hate dental work.......

I had a root canal done on it last year but it failed so an infection just kept coming back. I nursed it with antibiotics and not chewing hard sticky items on that side. Eventually I was going to get the recommended root canal re-treatment done and then put a crown on it. This procedure would have required me to go to a specialist (it had 3 roots rather than the normal 2) and spend WAY too much money on one tooth that is already pretty poor. I was willing to pay this and get it taken care of. Along with that tooth there were many others I needed work on, so I did that prior to getting pregnant. We originally wanted to get my teeth all done before we got pregnant but we also were not preventing.

After finding out I was pregnant my dentist still recommended me getting this fixed since infection in the teeth can cause preterm birth and other issues in pregnancy. I was willing to except for one I had to wait until my 2nd trimester and secondly the numbing stuff they can use on pregnant women didn’t numb me when I had gone in for a crown fitting. I was terrified to get this work done if I could not get numbed. He sent me on my way and we decided I would be back in when I got into my 2nd trimester.

Over Christmas break I cracked the temporary filling that was put in the old root canal and I got worried that it would get infected again and maybe worse. After speaking to my OB she suggested to get it taken care of ASAP. So, off I went back to the dentist to see what to do for the infection so I could get ready to see the specialist. My dentist happened to be too busy to see me that day so another dentist saw me. THANKFULLY he had another suggestion! He told me the tooth really had a bad prognosis and really would be pointless to do a root canal again on that tooth since it is likely to fail once again. He said we just need to extract it. Now any other dentist would have voted against this since it can shift your teeth or make chewing difficult. This dentist told me I would probably not even notice it was gone being so far back there and if I chose to get an implant later I could. However he said I most likely would opted not to and I should not have issues with that tooth being gone.

This decision made the cost of fixing my mouth change from equaling a fortune to the cost of a very nice dinner at a restaurant! I was excited about this aspect, but I was scared to DEATH of a dry socket. When I had my wisdom tooth pulled that was next to this molar I had gotten dry socket. That is the worst pain EVER!! I have a pretty high pain tolerance but that was PURE TORTURE!!! I never want to experience that again. The procedure itself is painful after the numbing wears off (he was actually able to numb with the weak stuff for pregnant women) but there are pain medications that you can take when you are pregnant! Thank God!!

I am safe to say that as of today my extraction seems to be healing up nicely and there is no dry socket. There are still a few more days that I can get dry socket- I just pray I never have to feel that pain again!

Today I got to see a new baby boy born yesterday to our friends Hannah and Buddy! Congratulations guys! He is a cutie!!

I really did hit a growth spurt the last week……….
can’t wait to start feeling my gummy bear move ......

Rescheduling and rescheduling.....

Originally my appointment was scheduled for Jan. 27th. Justin tells me on Monday that he may be out of town for the appointment and asked me to reschedule it so he can be there (he is so sweet and involved). I call the doctor's office and tell them my situation and we reschedule for Thursday Jan 22nd. I go into the appointment yesterday and the tell me that I was actually scheduled for Jan 29th. First off - that would make no sense for me to agree to reschedule for a day that Justin would still be out of town. They said they would see me, so I waited and once I get in there I pee in the cup get my weight then they finally realize I am there for my doctor not the other one that is at that office. They tell me my doctor is not there - had she been there she would have seen me. Frustrated we rescheduled for this morning at 9:15 AM.

This appointment was nothing big. We had the option to test for Down’s Syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis but we declined. It would not make a difference to use one way or the other. They did an annual exam and then my doctor felt on my stomach (guessing to check positioning). At this stage she likes to make predictions and she predicted a girl. She gave me my orders to get my BIG ULTRASOUND.

After the appointment I called and set up for this appointment and it is scheduled for February 20th!! We will know if its PINK or BLUE that day. We will then see my doctor again on the 26th.

We will miss you Tigger.......

We lost our cat Tigger this past Sunday to a kidney stone......we are truly going to miss him and his sweet ways! I did not know that such a problem can cause so much damage in a cat. Had we been rich we would have paid for the expensive surgery - however that was not the case. We will always have Tigger in our hearts and I will never forget that "fluffy" (not fat) cat.

Besides the sad news of the loss of Tigger, I did have some fun moments over the weekend. I attended a baby shower this weekend for Lauren and Nick. It was a nice shower and so fun to catch up with everyone there. I made Lauren a diaper cake and crocheted a baby blanket for Ryker. Now if I can just convince her to actually USE the diapers from the diaper cake. The Bryan family is growing....there are three of us about to add to the family!
Same goes for the Huetwohl side, according to the family emails there are 4 of us adding into the already VERY LARGE family! Not surprising though - if you have that many people in a family there are bound to be some pregnant people.
Well, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow at 4:30 PM. It is really just a check up and to get my orders to have the BIG ultrasound done - find out the sex and all - so I will get back on here after my appointment share news, if there is any. We will see!
Here is the big 15 week belly - Grow Baby Grow!!

Hello 2nd Trimester...........

Well I am officially in my 2nd trimester now and it feels.......GREAT! More than Great - its a milestone I for sure consider big! Which I consider my lower belly is becoming as well! I was looking at today's picture compared to two weeks ago and HELLO baby - he/she is a-growin' I know I will only get bigger and I actually can't wait. Besides the larger lower belly I have had heartburn pretty frequently! Tums have become my new BFF!!!! Yesterday was the weirdest thing ever - I had this weird nasty taste in my mouth - like metal or mold - and nothing tasted good at all! Even the Chili cheese hot dogs and fries were nasty to me! Today I am back to normal with the taste issue but WOW - this baby may come out hairy with this heartburn!

Over the weekend we picked up the bassinet that was passed from Brooks, to Lincoln and now to Baby Bryan.......it's a very nice bassinet and gender neutral! With that I was also given a couple of nursing bras, a naming book and the Baby Wise Book that will come in handy in the future. So far quite a few people have been helping me out with maternity clothes, books, and other stuff I may need for baby later.....Thank you Kristen, Cathy, and Latisha! (and if I left anyone out I am sorry - I think I covered my bases though)

Also over the weekend we went to watch Justin's niece in her Cheerleading Competition....she was SUPER CUTE! Its amazing what those little girls can learn to do so young! YEAH Madison for an AWESOME performance. While I am on the subject of the nieces and nephews - I must say that McKaley and Grant are growing up so much! Brooks and Lincoln are just the cutest little boys ever!

Ok...Note on the clothes in the pictures....

The pictures may look like the same one in each posting but they are not.....I AM however wearing the same PJ pants in most every picture. I did this so that I can show the progression of how the PJ's start to not fit as BIG on me. They are large enough to grow with me through the pregnancy so I wanted to use them for each weekly picture......

Just When I Thought I Was Feeling Better.....

Over the time we had off from work between December 24th through Jan 5th I was feeling for the most part great! I hardly got nauseous and was getting enough sleep to feel pretty energized! All the feeling great seemed to halt on about January 3rd........the queasiness has kicked back up! I no longer get hungry then get sick if I wait too long.....NOPE now I get sick when I am hungry! And WOW - its weird how quick you can get hungry all of a sudden!

Well......I hope the 2nd trimester really is as easy as some say it is......(not that my 1st trimester was THAT hard)

13 week belly......maternity pants - here I come....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

We Heard the Heartbeat!!!! Our appointment was on December 30th! We got in there after it seemed like FOREVER in the waiting room and the first thing the nurse did was grab the doppler. After a few moments she found the SWOOSH - SWOOSH closer on the left side on my tummy. It was a STRONG 166 beats per minute! To hear that sound of that little heart pumping and working at growing in there melted my heart. I was in tears just hearing that sweet sound! Justin was super excited to hear the heart beat - we both know that hearing the heart beat means that the viability has increased significantly!! Next appointment is January 27th, 2009 at 4 pm!!!

Our New Years Eve started off rough with Justin getting a migraine. Thank God that finally subsided! What a horrible way to bring the new year it would have been for him.
Once that was over we went on to Nathan's mom's house where they had a fire going and people over. It was FREEZING but that fire kept us all warm!

12 week belly from December 31th.......
